A Perfect Body

A Perfect Body is an on-going collage-based meditation on physical euphoria and bodily expectation that was started in 2025. Viewed through a transgender lens, the series examines how idealized images of the “perfect” male body create problems rather than solutions—producing tension between desire, visibility, and self-understanding.

The collages are built on misprinted risograph sheets, using mechanical error and excess as a foundation for the work. Incorporating artwork of gay photographers, these pieces become a reflection on the idealization of a singular version of masculinity and physical attraction. These images become internalized, generating inward-facing body shame and pressure to become one’s gender convincingly—committing to the bit in order to be legible, accepted, and most importantly, desired.

The series also navigates the complexities of sex, self-expression, and intimacy when perception is unstable and constantly negotiated. Dating becomes a site of scrutiny, where curiosity about bodies often overrides emotional connection, and questions about what lies “under the hood” shape interaction. A Perfect Body holds these contradictions in tension, using collage to write a love story of struggle to the body as a way of resisting fixed ideals and reclaiming agency over how euphoria, identity, and desire are experienced.
